About the SHRM Certification

The SHRM-CP (Certified Professional) and SHRM-SCP (Senior Certified Professional) are the gold standard credentials for HR professionals worldwide, issued by the Society for Human Resource Management.

SHRM-CP

For HR professionals who implement policies and serve as the primary HR point of contact. Eligibility requires 1–4 years of HR experience depending on your education level.

  • Recertification every 3 years

SHRM-SCP

For senior HR professionals who develop strategy, lead HR departments, and shape organizational direction. Eligibility requires 3–6 years of HR experience depending on your education level.

  • 3 hours 40 minutes
  • Knowledge & Situational Judgment items
  • Recertification every 3 years

What the Exam Covers

The SHRM Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge (SHRM BASK) defines the competencies and functional areas tested on both exams. Questions appear as knowledge items and situational judgment (SJT) scenarios — applied cases that test how you'd handle real HR challenges.
